The Question of the Beggar
A couple of YPPC students recently posed a question to resident Chhewang Thile
Lama. “What do we do when we come across a beggar who is asking for money, and
all we have on hand is money, and we are quite certain he will use it only to buy
booze or drugs to hurt himself? Do we refuse to give the money and just pray for
him?”

Lama  said, “No, it is better for you to give the money with compassion. Don’t worry
about how the money is used. It is very good for you to give with compassion.” He
also said that this kind of generosity (Tib:
jinpa) creates a good connection between
you and this person in case you meet in a future life.
